Private lessons are the most efficient way to learn to swim. Each lesson is tailored specifically to the student’s skill level, goals and comfort in the aquatic environment.
~In general, children from 3-9 years old take half-hour lessons. ~Children age 10-adults may take full hour lessons, but have the option to take half-hour lessons if anxiety, attention span, or other factors make it a more suitable choice. ~For teens and adults in a hurry to learn, perhaps for an upcoming vacation, two hour lessons are available.
Why are private lessons better? In standard group lessons, if a student is afraid to put their face in the water, they will not be advanced to the next level, and may end up repeating the same 6-week class multiple times. In a private lesson, the instructor has the time to assist the student in overcoming their fear. Although we do have a good track record of success in the “face-in-the-water” area, if this continues to be a challenge, there are many other skills that can be learned first. After the student’s confidence is stronger, putting their face in the water and learning related skills may be easier.
On the other hand, a more confident swimmer may advance through the skills faster than their peers, and can do so in a private lesson. It is rare that we find two individuals, even if they are the same age and swim level, who remain well-matched throughout the learning process. There is almost always a difference in the pace at which each learns, their comfort level with the water, and their proficiency or difficulty with the various strokes.
*In addition to our beginner swim lessons, we also offer lessons to current swimmers who would like to improve their strokes, and to new military personnel, college students, and scouts who need to pass a swim test.
